Real Trakka camera controller meets Mixed Reality — Aircrew train EO/IR and searchlight operations without an aircraft
FARNBOROUGH, UK — Monday 20 July 2026 — BlueRoom Simulations today launched its new Search and Rescue module, training aircrew in the operation of an EO/IR camera and searchlight using the real controller inside fully simulated missions. The module was developed in partnership with fellow Australian company Trakka Systems and is being demonstrated live all week at the Australian Pavilion (Hall 3, Stand 3311).
Practising the fine motor skills of camera and searchlight operation has traditionally required a real camera fitted to a real aircraft, making training time scarce, expensive, and hostage to aircraft access, pilot availability, weather, and engineering. By integrating Trakka's physical controller with the BlueRoom Mixed Reality Simulator, aircrew can now fly repeatable, instructor-controlled SAR scenarios on any airframe, at a fraction of the cost.
The BlueRoom Mixed Reality Aeromedical Simulator has solved this same problem for aeromedical crews for over three years. The SAR module answers consistent demand from end-users to extend that capability to other aircrew duties, an idea sparked when the two companies met at Australian trade missions around the world.
Able to work on any airframe, the proof-of-concept demonstrator on display at Farnborough uses the Airbus H175 as its main platform. Visitors can experience the mixed reality training capability first-hand throughout the show.
