About BlueRoom

We build cutting-edge Mixed Reality (MR) training and simulation systems for high-consequence environments, requiring rapid problem-solving, practical engineering, and an attitude of getting things done.

The Internship

We’re looking for a recent graduate / final-year student who wants real-world experience building and deploying Unreal-based XR applications. This is a hands-on, on-site internship in Clayton South, working directly with our technical team on real customer-facing projects.

You’ll gain exposure to:

  • Unreal Engine development for XR / simulation (VR/MR) and PC applications
  • Rapid prototyping, iterative development, and production hardening
  • System deployment and troubleshooting (software + hardware integration)
  • Working with large customers in Australia and globally
  • Opportunities to support demos, showcases, and (where feasible) travel for deployments/events

This internship runs on a three-month cycle. Strong performers may be considered for future paid opportunities as they arise.

What you’ll do

Depending on your capability and current project needs, you may:

  • Implement gameplay/simulation features in Unreal Engine (Blueprints and/or C++)
  • Build UI elements, interactions, and training flows
  • Optimise performance and improve stability
  • Integrate devices/sensors/peripherals (where relevant)
  • Use version control and collaborate via structured dev workflows
  • Assist with packaging builds, testing, and deployment checklists

What we’re looking for

  • Recent graduate or final-year student in software engineering / games / CS / mechatronics or similar
  • Working knowledge of Unreal Engine (personal, academic, or hobby projects welcome)
  • Comfortable learning quickly and taking feedback
  • Solid communication skills and a team-first mindset
  • Ability to commit to 3 months full-time, on-site in Clayton South

Nice to have:

  • C++ experience, Blueprint fluency, or both
  • Git / Perforce familiarity
  • Any XR exposure (VR/MR), 3D maths, or real-time optimisation
  • Hardware/system integration curiosity (devices, peripherals, networking)

Why this is worth doing

You’ll be in the room with a team shipping real systems to real customers. If you want a portfolio that includes production XR work, exposure to deployment reality, and a fast learning curve—this is it.

How to apply

Apply with:

  • A short cover letter (why BlueRoom, why XR, and what you want to learn)
  • Your CV
  • Links to any work: GitHub, itch.io, portfolio, showreel, or a brief demo video (highly valued)

Police check:

We will require a national police check on prior to starting.
