BlueRoom Simulations is proud to announce the integration of the Airbus A400M Atlas into our Mixed Reality (MR) aeromedical simulator, a move that significantly enhances our capability to deliver world-leading aeromedical training simulation. This addition marks a pivotal step forward in ensuring that defence and medical organisations can train in realistic environments that mirror the operational challenges faced by today’s military airlift crews.
With this update, BlueRoom will showcase the A400M Atlas environment at DSEI UK (London) and MSPO (Poland) this September. Customers, partners, and operators will have the opportunity to step inside the A400 M's virtual cargo bay and experience immersive aeromedical evacuation scenarios, demonstrating the flexibility and authenticity of our training systems.
The Airbus A400M Atlas – A Global Tactical and Strategic Workhorse
The Airbus A400M Atlas is one of the most advanced and versatile military transport aircraft in the world. Designed to fill the gap between tactical airlifters like the C-130 Hercules and strategic giants such as the C-17 Globemaster III, the A400M offers unparalleled flexibility. Its ability to carry oversized cargo, perform tactical airdrops, and operate from short or semi-prepared runways makes it a cornerstone of modern air mobility.
Operators of the A400M include:
Royal Air Force (RAF), United Kingdom – operating the A400M out of RAF Brize Norton, where it has replaced older Hercules aircraft in both tactical airlift and aeromedical roles.
German Air Force (Luftwaffe) – utilising the A400M for heavy-lift transport, medical evacuation, and humanitarian assistance missions worldwide.
French Air and Space Force (Armée de l’Air et de l’Espace) – deploying the A400M extensively in overseas operations, including Africa and the Middle East.
Spanish Air Force (Ejército del Aire) – using the A400M both for transport and as part of NATO’s strategic airlift capabilities.
Turkish Air Force – employing the A400M to extend its regional reach across Europe, Asia, and the Middle East.
Belgian Air Component and Luxembourg Armed Forces – operating jointly within a binational A400M unit.
Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) – the first A400M operator in the Asia-Pacific region.
Indonesian Air Force (TNI AU) - operating two A400M regionally.
Across Europe and beyond, the A400M has become an essential platform for military operations, humanitarian relief, and aeromedical evacuation (AME) missions.
Aeromedical Evacuation in the A400M
One of the A400 M's defining features is its capacity to perform aeromedical evacuation at scale. Its wide cargo hold and rear loading ramp enable rapid reconfiguration to accommodate patients, stretchers, intensive care equipment, and medical staff. This makes the A400M ideal for responding to humanitarian crises, combat operations, or natural disasters.
The Royal Air Force has already employed the A400M in high-profile aeromedical evacuations, transporting critically injured personnel and civilians from conflict zones back to advanced medical facilities. Similarly, the German Air Force has configured its A400Ms with modular aeromedical evacuation kits, enabling the safe transfer of multiple patients simultaneously, even across intercontinental distances.
By introducing the A400M into BlueRoom’s simulator, crews can now train in:
Patient loading and unloading procedures using litters, stretchers, and aeromedical pallets.
In-flight care under the unique conditions of turbulence, noise, and limited space.
Coordination between medical teams and flight crews during extended missions.
Complex clinical scenarios, from stabilising trauma patients to conducting advanced medical procedures in flight.
All of this can be practised with real medical equipment inside BlueRoom’s Mixed Reality Simulator, ensuring that crews train exactly as they would perform in operational settings.
Multi-Platform Training Flexibility
The addition of the Airbus A400M Atlas highlights one of BlueRoom’s greatest strengths: true reconfigurability. Our simulator is not restricted to a single aircraft type. Instead, it can be seamlessly reconfigured to replicate a wide variety of air and rotary-wing platforms, including:
Fixed-wing transport aircraft such as the Lockheed Martin C-130 Hercules.
Heavy-lift platforms such as the Boeing C-17 Globemaster III.
Rotary-wing aircraft, including the UH-60 Black Hawk and NH90.
This flexibility means that a single investment in BlueRoom technology provides a multi-platform training capability, ideal for militaries and medical services working in joint or coalition environments. For NATO partners, this ensures interoperability — crews trained in BlueRoom can confidently operate across allied fleets, including the A400M, C-130, and C-17.
Supporting European and Global Operators
BlueRoom’s integration of the A400M is particularly timely given its widespread adoption among European allies and its growing global role. The aircraft has already been deployed in humanitarian relief missions to deliver aid in response to earthquakes, floods, and pandemics, and it continues to play a vital role in NATO operations.
By providing a synthetic yet tactile training environment, BlueRoom allows operators such as the Royal Air Force, German Air Force, French Air Force, Spanish Air Force, and others to train medical crews in realistic environments without the cost, complexity, or risk of live aircraft training.
Showcasing the A400M at DSEI and MSPO
The debut of the A400M Atlas in BlueRoom will take place at two of Europe’s leading defence exhibitions:
DSEI UK (London, 9–12 September 2025) – the world’s largest integrated defence and security event, where BlueRoom will present live demonstrations of aeromedical scenarios inside the A400M environment.
MSPO (Kielce, Poland, 2–5 September 2025) – Central and Eastern Europe’s premier defence industry showcase, where regional operators will see first-hand the potential for advanced training on platforms like the A400M.
Visitors will be able to step into the virtual A400M cargo bay, wear a headset, and participate in live aeromedical training missions, gaining a direct appreciation of how BlueRoom’s system enhances readiness and interoperability.
Impact
The introduction of the Airbus A400M Atlas into BlueRoom’s Mixed Reality Simulator underscores our commitment to innovation, adaptability, and global relevance. By delivering highly realistic training for aeromedical evacuation, humanitarian assistance, and tactical airlift operations, we are enabling aircrews and medical teams to train smarter, safer, and more effectively.
As the A400M continues to expand its footprint with operators across Europe, Asia, and beyond, BlueRoom is proud to provide a training platform that supports these missions. Whether in the skies above Europe, the Middle East, or the Asia-Pacific, the A400M is shaping the future of air mobility — and now, with BlueRoom, so too is the future of immersive aeromedical training.
We look forward to sharing this capability at DSEI UK and MSPO 2025, where the next generation of training innovation will be on display.
