The Higher Colleges of Technology (HCT) has taken a significant step in reshaping paramedic education in the UAE. Two additional BlueRoom Mixed Reality Simulators are now installed and operational at its Sharjah and Bani Yas campuses. This expansion builds on the first BlueRoom system at HCT’s Al Ain Zakhir campus. Now, three HCT sites have direct access to Mixed Reality (MR) training. This makes HCT one of the most advanced paramedic education providers in the region and the first university system in the world to embed BlueRoom at this scale.

The new systems were delivered and commissioned in close partnership with our regional distributor, Leader Healthcare. They are a long-standing leader in healthcare simulation and education across the Middle East.

Supporting a National Pipeline of Emirati Paramedics

HCT’s Bachelor of Emergency Medical Services program has a clear mission. It aims to train the next generation of UAE nationals to the highest international standards of pre-hospital emergency care. This is achieved using competency-based learning and the latest educational technologies. The BlueRoom Mixed Reality Simulator fits directly into that mission.

At Al Ain, the first installation immersed paramedic students in high-pressure, contextualized environments. These include an Abu Dhabi ambulance or a desert motor vehicle collision. Students can practise critical interventions using real equipment in a virtual scene.

Now, with Sharjah and Bani Yas online, those same experiences and many more are available to an even larger cohort of Emirati paramedic students across the three campuses.

Enhanced Learning Experiences

HCT students can:

  • Use real monitors, airway kits, IV lines, and stretchers while training inside fully synthetic 360° environments.

  • Move seamlessly between urban, desert, highway, and remote settings within a single lesson.

  • Build muscle memory for advanced paramedic skills in a safe but realistic setting. This preparation occurs before they step into live ambulance and hospital preceptorships.

The result is a pipeline of graduates who have not just learned the theory. They have also practised in static skills labs and rehearsed repeatedly in Mixed Reality virtual environments.

Three Campuses, One Connected Mixed Reality Platform

Each BlueRoom installation at HCT uses the same core platform:

  • Varjo-powered Mixed Reality headsets

  • A chroma-key training space

  • The BlueRoom environment engine, which renders virtual scenes around the real learner and equipment

  • The Mission Control application, where instructors can change the environment, lighting, patient condition, and scenario complexity in real time

Leader Healthcare: Regional Partner in Simulation

Delivering high-end simulation across multiple campuses requires more than just technology. It needs a regional partner who understands curriculum, logistics, and support. That’s where Leader Healthcare comes in. Headquartered in Dubai, Leader Healthcare has spent over a decade equipping universities and hospitals with advanced simulation technology. This includes human patient simulators and full skills labs across the Middle East and Asia.

What It Means for Paramedic Education in the UAE

Across the region, universities and training centres are embracing simulation. This approach gives learners more realistic, hands-on experience without putting patients at risk.

By expanding BlueRoom to Sharjah and Bani Yas, HCT is:

  • Scaling access to high-fidelity, Mixed Reality training beyond a single flagship campus.

  • Providing students with more repetitions of complex cases, from multi-casualty incidents to high-acuity medical emergencies before they enter the field.

  • Demonstrating how local institutions can lead globally by adopting next-generation simulation as a standard part of the curriculum, not just as an add-on.

For BlueRoom, it’s a privilege to see our Australian-designed Mixed Reality technology helping to train the next generation of UAE paramedics. For Leader Healthcare, it’s another milestone in a long-term commitment to advancing healthcare simulation and education across the Gulf.

For HCT’s paramedic students at Al Ain, Sharjah, and Bani Yas, it means one very practical thing:

They get to train in highly realistic environments from day one, with real equipment, real hands, and real pressure long before they are called out to their first patient.

The Future of Paramedic Training

As we look to the future, the integration of Mixed Reality technology in paramedic training will continue to evolve. This innovative approach not only enhances the learning experience but also prepares students for the realities of their future roles.
